bookmark titles and document content may be in any language. Splitting uses page destinations, not recognition or translation of the titles.

How to use split pdf by bookmarks

  1. 1. Open a bookmarked PDF

Choose a PDF with chapter or section bookmarks that point to pages. A printed contents page alone is not enough.

  2. 2. Choose the nesting level

Use 1 for top-level chapters or a higher number for nested sections. Bookmarks at that level supply the boundaries.

  3. 3. Download the chapters

Select Process PDF and download the ZIP. Pages before the first bookmark are retained; duplicate boundaries are combined.

What this tool preserves

Pages before the first bookmark are retained. Same-page bookmarks produce one boundary. Interactive features may not carry over.

Privacy and practical limits

Files stay on your device. Each input must be under 150 MB. Processing speed and memory use depend on your device. Keep original documents; PDF transformations do not preserve digital-signature validity.

Questions & answers

Which bookmark level should I choose?

Choose level 1 for top-level chapters, level 2 for their child sections, and so on. The tool uses bookmarks with valid page destinations at that level.

What happens to pages before the first bookmark?

They remain in the first output part. Every source page is included once, and bookmarks on the same page create one split boundary.

Can I split a PDF without bookmarks?

This tool requires page bookmarks. Use the regular Split PDF tool for page ranges, or Split PDF by text for phrase-based boundaries.

Which languages are supported?

Language support: bookmark titles and document content may be in any language. Splitting uses page destinations, not recognition or translation of the titles.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every Feemag tool is free, with no sign-up, no watermarks added by us and no daily limits.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are processed by your own browser on your device and never uploaded to a server. Processing speed depends on your device and file size.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes: in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox) on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Linux.
